"Maybe that's better. Then you can't miss him."

Cajis, chapter 7

Cajis is Retia’s little sister. She is about thirteen, with fair hair and the same blue eyes as her sister, and she almost always has a book in her hand. According to Retia, she would rather talk to the neighbour’s cat out in the garden than to most people, and she never goes off anywhere on her own.

Honest

When Chris has dinner with the family, he tells Cajis that he has never met his father. Her answer is so honest that it hits him hard, and afterwards he thinks she is wiser than any thirteen-year-old has a right to be.

As for her own father, she says he is almost never home, but that he is kind when he is.

Relationships

Spoiler (revealed in chapter 14)

Cajis has seen her father in an alley near the harbour in Tés Aváir with his hood up, but she recognised his hands and his two different-coloured eyes. She asks Chris to tell Retia, but not their mother.
