Retia's mother. Her house in Tés Aváir is the first real home Chris experiences.

Arvia is Retia’s mother. She has curly brown hair and green eyes, and when she meets Retia in Tés Aváir, she holds her in a long hug.
The dinner
Arvia invites Retia’s new friends over, and in chapter 7 they have dinner in the family’s white house with the red roof. Small drawings of the family hang on the walls of the hallway. Arvia comes in with dishes and a basket of bread, and the table is laid for five.
For Chris, who grew up in a care home, it is the first time he has sat at the table with a real family. He feels the difference straight away.
When anyone asks about her husband, she smiles a smile that seems rehearsed.

When Chris comes to visit again late in the autumn, Arvia has grown thinner and looks tired. The drawing of her husband has been taken down from the wall, because it made her cry.
