About the series
Dina is the Shamer’s daughter. Her mother can look people in the eye and make them feel shame for everything they have done, so she is sent for whenever the truth of a matter has to be found. Dina has inherited the gift, and it makes her lonely, because no one will look her in the eye.
When her mother is summoned to Dunark Castle to get a confession from a young nobleman accused of murder, Dina ends up in the middle of a case where the truth is dangerous for the wrong people.
Lene Kaaberbøl is one of the few Danish authors known for fantasy, and the series has been translated into many languages and made into a film.

My thoughts
I like that the magic comes at a price. Dina’s gift isn’t something she enjoys. It isolates her, and that makes her one of the most believable main characters in Danish fantasy.
