About the series

Poppy is one of the gods’ chosen, the Maiden. She wears a veil, may not be touched, may not speak to most people and cannot live like other young people. The future of the whole kingdom rests on her one day being Ascended, and until then she lives by rules she never chose for herself.

But Poppy sneaks out when no one is watching, and she has an ability she keeps hidden. When she gets a new guard, Hawke, her safe world begins to crack. He is everything she is not allowed to have, and the closer she gets to him, the more she starts to doubt what she has been told about the gods, the kingdom and her own role.

The first four have been published in Danish: Af blod og aske, Riget af flammer, Kronen af gyldne knogler and To dronningers kamp. The series has adult scenes.

My thoughts

I listened to the series, and what drew me in was the question of who is actually telling the truth. Poppy has grown up with one version of the story, and it’s great fun to discover the rest along with her.
